The Northern Public Law Forum 2019:  The North and the Constitution

For the 2019 Northern Public Law Forum, on 22nd November 2019 the Liverpool Law School at the University of Liverpool will host two events exploring the position of the North in the UK constitution.  Full details on our academic panel and public lecture can be found below – all are welcome.

Liverpool Law School is proud to host the second meeting of the Northern Public Law Forum. An expert academic panel will explore the intellectual foundations for the challenge of devolving power to sub-state units (in general) and to the North (in particular).

Our panellists will be: Elisenda Casanas Adam (University of Edinburgh), Arianna Giovannini (IPPR North), Nicola McEwen (University of Edinburgh) and Akash Paun (Institute for Government) and John Stanton (City University, London).

The Constitutional Position of the North of England:  A Public Lecture by Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester

Date:  Friday 22 November, 3.30pm

Venue:  The University of Liverpool, Management School

As part of the Northern Public Law Forum, the Liverpool Law School will host a public lecture from one of the leading figures in English devolved government.  Andy has been a key contributor to important public debates about the future of English devolution, and in this lecture will reflect on issues including: the strengths and limitations of the Combined Authority module, the case for expanding devolution in the North, and how the North of England could be represented in (or affected by) any major UK constitutional reform process that might occur post-Brexit.
