Call for Papers: UKCLA Early Career Workshop in Constitutional Law and Theory

University of Bristol Law School, 1 July 2024

We are excited to announce a one-day workshop for PhD candidates and early-career academics whose research interests fall broadly within constitutional law and theory. The workshop will allow PhD candidates and early-career scholars to present their research, receive constructive feedback from established scholars and network with other participants and academics within the field.

This workshop will be held at the University of Bristol Law School on 1st July 2024. The workshop is jointly organised by the University of Bristol’s Centre for European and Public Law and the University of Liverpool’s Public Law Unit and is generously funded by the UK Constitutional Law Association.

Participants will have the opportunity to present their research for feedback from our assembled expert panel of established academics. The workshop will also include a session on academic publishing with our expert panellists. We are delighted to announce that our expert panel will consist of:

  • Joanna Bell (University of Oxford, St Edmund Hall)
  • Emily Hancox (University of Bristol)
  • Gavin Phillipson (University of Bristol)
  • Andy Woodhouse (University of Liverpool)

We realise that there are many definitions of “early career”, but for the purpose of our workshop, we are keen to hear from those studying for a PhD or those within five years of attaining their PhD. Our goal is to help those in the early stages of their career build confidence in their research and establish connections within the field.

We are committed to providing a welcoming workshop environment that is inclusive to all, regardless of their background or circumstances. We particularly welcome submissions from underrepresented groups and any PhD candidates/Early Career Researchers who have had limited opportunities to present their research and engage in networking due to the pandemic or other personal circumstances.

Those interested in attending should submit an abstract of around 300 words via our online form, found here. Abstracts should be submitted by the end of 24th May 2024. Decisions will be communicated by the 31st of May. The event will be free and include refreshments.

If you wish to attend without presenting or have any further questions about the workshop, please email Robert Greally (Robert.Greally@Bristol.ac.uk).
